Mark Twain Victorian Carpet Bedding

I was asked to do an annual carpet bedding design for the Mark Twain House, in Hartford, CT, for the spring of 2011.  In the front of the historic, Victorian home, is a turnway garden that measures 13’ in diameter, and is where the carriages would have turned around.  This was a great honor, as the Mark Twain house is heavily visited by people from all over the world.  Master Gardeners from the area install and maintain the gardens.

After some research, I came upon the idea for an elaborate cross pattern.  We installed in May with donated flowers.  It was a joy to stop by from time to time to weed and enjoy the plants begin to grow together to emphasize the design.  The garden was at its height in early September.

I have been asked to do another design for the turnway garden for 2012.
